Back to Palm Springs, CA

We decided to stop in Palm Springs again.  We stayed at Cathedral Palms RV Resort.
I forgot to take a photo, but it looks like most if not all the spaces are back in.
We really liked this park and plan to stay again someday.

We got to hang with Mike and Carol in their back yard before heading north to Seattle, we will miss the warm weather and fresh oranges.
above is the view from Mike and Carol's back yard.

Sand Plow

We revisited Desert Lily Sancturary BLM, and there were some strong winds.  When we drove thru the Mohave Desert there were signs warning about drifting sand when windy out.

After the winds subsided the sand plow came by.

He was plowing the shoulders of the highway, and even took the time to make sure our entrance was nicely plowed.

The shoulders reminded me a little of the powdery snow near Choteau Montana when it drifts from the ground blizards.

Happy Traveler RV Park, Palm Springs, CA

We wanted to visit with Suzi's parents Mike and Carol, so we decided to stay at the Happy Traveler RV Park since it is less than a mile from their condo.

The reviews mentioned how small the spaces were but we decided to go for it since we had a smaller RV.

Our 30 foot RV with no slides fit just fine. however, in looking around there were a lot of spaces that were smaller than ours.

Very few have a spot to park their tow vehicle, so there is a lot of moving of vehicles to get parked.

Had to wait to make it completely aound the loop to get to our spot for someone to move their car on the corner, but not a big deal.

We were lucky the one car that was bearly blocking us from backing in came right out and moved his car while I parked.

Desert Lily Sancturary BLM, near Desert Center, CA

We were on our way to Palm Springs and came upon Desert Lily Sancturary, which is on Bureau of Land Management land so we stopped, cleaned the place up a bit and stayed for a few days.
Boomer loved his dirt baths here as well as napping in the sunshine.
Louis and Natasha the cats enjoyed the nearby bushes with the little birds to watch.

Davis Dam, AZ -- more birds fishing in Colorado River

Heron on bank of Colorado River below Davis Dam, Arizona

Davis Dam AZ birds

There were a lot of different Birds to entertain the cats.

Each night we would see the Casino party boat go by blasting music.
Sounded like the boat occupants were having a good time.

Davis Dam, AZ

We headed South and ended up at a nice state park on the Colorado River, just below Davis Dam on the Nevada Arizona border.

Since there was a wind storm blowing thru, there were not many other campers.
Boomer took alot of dirt baths on the beach.
We stayed a few days, giving Suzi a chance to get some writing done, Natasha likes to help.

Hoover Dam

With all our adventures to the Lake Mead Recreation area, it only seemed approperiate to stop by Hoover Dam which holds the water back to create the massive reservoir.
There is a stairway to the top of the bridge that gives you a great view of the dam from far above.
The crooked power towers looked like they were going to fall into the abyss.
Since Hoover Dam is on the Nevada, Arizona state line they put a clock on each side of the Dam showing what time zone you are in
Below is Hoover Dam from the Lake Mead / Arizona side.
As with most man made structures from this era there is a nice memorial for those who lost lives in the creation of the massive dam.

Government Wash BLM NV: Coyote greeting

We stopped by the dispersed camping area near Henderson NV, but we did not stay in our RV here.

There was alot of trash blowing about.  I sure wish folks would clean up after themselves to keep these areas open!

There were a lot of RV's camping around, it did not seem like a good area to park while we were gone in our toad so we chose to stay longer at Callville.
Boomer seemed on edge with all the coyote action
The coyotes did not seem very scared of people here.

Turtle fences

All around Lake Mead we noticed these short 2 ft tall fences along all the roadways that were put in with lots of care, placing rocks on folded over fencing.  We were wondering what they were trying to save from the roads.

Then Suzi came upon this sign.

We were disappointed that we did not see any of the desert tortoises in our travels around the area.

Callville Campground NV

We stopped by the Callville Bay campground to do laundry and take a day trip to Henderson NV for tires and supplies.

Below is the Marina at Callville Bay on Lake Mead NV

Found some good Boomer areas.

Rainbow Overlook and Trail: Valley of Fire State Park, NV

Suzi hiked on one last hike before the night fell.

The rainbow trail has large boulders on either side,

as you walk about a mile and half to an overlook.

This one has the same deep sand as the others, and the beautiful cliff faces.

At the end of the trail was a valley and you can climb up to get a good view.

It was starting to get dusky as I made my way back to the car and my family.

Since we were so close, we drove to one last overlook before calling it a day.

We hiked out onto a cliff edge and looked around at the rock structures around us.  The park ranger came to the parking lot with a loud speaker and announced we had 14 minutes to leave before closing.

We took a few pictures of the sunset and some beautiful hills before heading back to camp.
