We had the opportunity to take a trip out onto Orange Lake in a pontoon boat yesterday. It was a gorgeous day for a leisurely boat ride! Mid 70's, low humidity, slight breeze, and most importantly sunny!
Orange Lake is a large lake part of which is the Paynes Prairie Nature Preserve State Park. One of the maintenance guys, Mark was kind enough to be our captain! As we left the McIntosh cove he pointed out the water tower, and said that was our marker.
After a time our Captain had to stand to watch for where the path was to traverse thru the narrow spot to get out into the main part of the lake. There were lots of giant lily pad esk plants all around us as we made our way thru.
At one point someone on the boat wanted to know what that big thing in the water over there was... kind of looked like a giant sand crane at first glance, but really was just someone standing, fishing from their boat.
Our Captain, Mark, mentioned that he had seen eagles on the deck at one of the few houses along the lake, and sure enough, upon arriving in the area we saw several eagles.
Ever see a 2 headed eagle??
It started to get a bit cool out as the sun slid down the horizon, but it wasn’t too bad since we arrived back at camp just before sunset.
Here is a shot of the boat we went out on. Our Captain Mark is sitting, and Clair, another maintenance guy, is at the helm.
