On our way out west, we decided to go via California to get back home to Washington state.
Last time we were in Louisiana I-10 East of New Orleans was closed. If you remember, it was the one that looked like dominoes on the news after Katrina hit. Coming back this time, they have re-opened it, so... we decided, what the heck, let's go.
You could make out on the sides of the road where the old roadway used to be.
As we were driving, looking at the devastation, it was sad how few blue roofs there were. so many homes looked like they had no hope and had given up, with the sporadic blue roofs of hope thinly scattered around. At one point we passed a mall, that looked like something from one of those old B-movie horror flicks.
Suzi spotted a bunch of cars under the roadway, it looked like a junk yard in the middle of the city. We were wondering if they were the remnants of the cars that may have been parked there before the hurricane?? We passed 3 disabled vehicles along the highway. the first 2 were missing all 4 tires and wheels, and the last one had a hole thru the windshield about the size of a grapefruit. We were glad we did not brake down along this stretch of roadway!
We noticed, the further West you went, the more hopeful the scenery looked.
